Hedgerow School: The Doctor is IN!

Our Hedgerow School students eagerly prepare for their performances of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology (right around the corner from Hedgerow at 800 Manchester Ave) this Saturday, May 31st @ 4 pm and Sunday, June 1st @ 3 pm.

They did a swell job painting the set pieces for the show. Check out Snoopy’s dog house, Lucy’s psychiatrist’s stand, and the bright red fire hydrant, pictured below.

“Happiness is anyone and anything that’s loved by you.” ~Charlie Brown

Hedgerow School: Peanuts on Stage in ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’

A cast of 30 talented young actors will portray the characters in Charles Schulz’s classic comic strip Peanuts as Hedgerow Theatre School Presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

There will be two performances on Saturday, May 31 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, located at 800 Manchester Avenue in Media.

Clark Gesner’s hit Broadway musical depicts a typical day in the life of Charlie Brown and his friends, including his little sister, Sally, the bossy Lucy, Linus with his ever present security blanket, the piano-playing Schroeder, and Snoopy, the beagle. They play baseball, try to fly a kite, write a 100-word essay on “Peter Rabbit,” all while Charlie Brown tries to catch the eye of The Little Red-Haired Girl.” Among the delightful songs are the title number, “Happiness,” “The Book Report” and “Suppertime.”

The production is the culmination of a performance class in which the students were taught acting, singing and dancing skills in preparation for the appearance on stage. The class was taught by second-year Hedgerow Fellow Joel Guerrero, who has directed four other children’s shows at the theatre. The show was choreographed by Hedgerow Fellow Joanna Volpe. Ann Byun, mother of actress Abigail Kanes, is the accompanist.

In the cast are Ellie Barrickman of West Chester; Audrey Becker of Lansdowne; Sofia Brzezicki and Caroline Englehart of Springfield; Rory Cody, Maggie Corson and Hazel Puchalsky of Wallingford; Sophia Douglas, Baye Fletcher, Catrinia Price, Emma Szwajkowski, Madeline Theveny and Dean York of Media; Holden Dubach of Aston; Raina Farmer and Julia Shipman of Drexel Hill; Deborah Flores of Philadelphia; Kian Ganbari of Rutledge; Andrew Goren of Mount Laurel, N.J.; Ella Grossman, Abigail Kanes and Julia McLean of Swarthmore; Brianna and Eric Hadley of Rose Valley; Lexi Kosturus of Broomall; Caitlyn and Moira Mckniff of Brookhaven; Selena Psaris of Glen Mills; and Anna and Michael Tang of Spring Grove.

Tickets are $10. For more information or reservations, call 610-565-4211 or visit www.HedgerowTheatre.org.

Hedgerow: Only one more Storytime: Pinocchio!

It’s Storytime! Celebrate traditional tales with a twist! The Hedgerow Company shares classic stories in a way that encourages creativity and interaction. You’ll meet Pinocchio, your favorite cricket, the Blue Fairy, and more as you dance, and sing along in this energetic and creative play.  Kids can be a part of the storytelling, too, when they help the story tellers create a brand new audience-inspired tale, as they discover that all that’s needed is a little inspiration and  imagination to bring ideas to life.

Final Saturday performance is May 24 at 11 am. General admission only $10.

Acting Fellows, Brock Vickers and Colleen Marker, entertain our Theatre for Kids audiences as The Blue Fairy, Pinocchio, and many more characters!

Hedgerow: Mark Twain speaks!

Spot the Twain!

One of these things is not like the other . . .

Our school tour of Mark Twain started off with a bit of audience humor (as should be expected with America’s greatest wit), as Mark Twain (played by Hedgerow and Philly actor, Tom Teti) hid amongst eager teens as the show began.

Special thanks to Wilmington Christian Academy for visiting us in the pouring rain. You were a fantastic audience!

Hedgerow: PA State Rep. Joe Hackett paid us a visit!

A wonderful visit was had by all when PA State Rep. Joe Hackett took a tour of Hedgerow on Thursday, May 15. Executive Director, Penelope Reed, was able to show him the amazing improvements to our building, discuss our Chester outreach program, and Hedgerow’s artistic goals and mission, including our importance to the community at large.

Watch Margie Royal’s Tout of his visit here.
