Hedgerow School: Peanuts on Stage in ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’

A cast of 30 talented young actors will portray the characters in Charles Schulz’s classic comic strip Peanuts as Hedgerow Theatre School Presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

There will be two performances on Saturday, May 31 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, located at 800 Manchester Avenue in Media.

Clark Gesner’s hit Broadway musical depicts a typical day in the life of Charlie Brown and his friends, including his little sister, Sally, the bossy Lucy, Linus with his ever present security blanket, the piano-playing Schroeder, and Snoopy, the beagle. They play baseball, try to fly a kite, write a 100-word essay on “Peter Rabbit,” all while Charlie Brown tries to catch the eye of The Little Red-Haired Girl.” Among the delightful songs are the title number, “Happiness,” “The Book Report” and “Suppertime.”

The production is the culmination of a performance class in which the students were taught acting, singing and dancing skills in preparation for the appearance on stage. The class was taught by second-year Hedgerow Fellow Joel Guerrero, who has directed four other children’s shows at the theatre. The show was choreographed by Hedgerow Fellow Joanna Volpe. Ann Byun, mother of actress Abigail Kanes, is the accompanist.

In the cast are Ellie Barrickman of West Chester; Audrey Becker of Lansdowne; Sofia Brzezicki and Caroline Englehart of Springfield; Rory Cody, Maggie Corson and Hazel Puchalsky of Wallingford; Sophia Douglas, Baye Fletcher, Catrinia Price, Emma Szwajkowski, Madeline Theveny and Dean York of Media; Holden Dubach of Aston; Raina Farmer and Julia Shipman of Drexel Hill; Deborah Flores of Philadelphia; Kian Ganbari of Rutledge; Andrew Goren of Mount Laurel, N.J.; Ella Grossman, Abigail Kanes and Julia McLean of Swarthmore; Brianna and Eric Hadley of Rose Valley; Lexi Kosturus of Broomall; Caitlyn and Moira Mckniff of Brookhaven; Selena Psaris of Glen Mills; and Anna and Michael Tang of Spring Grove.
