 |  | | Sunday, June 22 - 7:30 p.m. at Hedgerow Theatre Although, best known for his novels, A Scarlet Letter and The House of Seven Gables, Nathaniel Hawthorne was also a prolific short story writer. The Hawthorne Sampler features three Hawthorne's stories: The Prophetic Pictures, Lady Eleanor's Mantle and his most famous short story, Young Goodman Brown, showcasing Hawthorne's use of nature -- its primitiveness, and as a source of inspiration, American historical themes, his use of gothic elements and allegory. Hawthorne is widely credited by scholars as being America's first professional writer. This new show is being developed as a tour offering to area high schools and colleges; teachers are encouraged to attend. Free. |

Philadelphia actors Lenny Haas and Mary Lee Bednarek lead the cast in a reading which brings alive Shaw's poignant examination of marriage that was generations ahead of its time, leaping beyond an examination of male/female relationships and deepening our understanding of human need.
